The Honest Mama Project

The "Why"

The Honest Mama Project is more than just a name. It is a commitment. A commitment to being honest about the realities of care, motherhood, and identity. It is a space where every mama, birthing person, parent, and caregiver is valued. A space for support and freedom to share your truth. This space is also a project. One that continues to grow and evolve as we work to create the kind of community we all deserve. The Honest Mama Project is built on the belief that representation, empathy, and advocacy have the power to transform the experience of parenthood and wellness for families everywhere.

Here we hold your hand and walk alongside you. This journey through parenthood, healing, and caregiving is not meant to be walked alone. It is a project that thrives on truth, community, and care. Being a mama in any form means holding both the resilience and the vulnerability. The laughter and the tears. The moments that change who we are forever. Together we are choosing to be honest about all of it. The joy and the challenge. The growth and the healing. The beauty and the burden.

We are rewriting the narrative of what it means to mother, to care, and to show up for ourselves and our communities. With truth. With strength. With solidarity.

The Honest Mama Project. Because it is time to be honest about what it really means to stand in our truth, unapologetically.

Our Founder

Breeona is a Registered Nurse with advanced training in lactation, perinatal mental health, and maternal-child wellness. She has worked in healthcare for over 11 years and as a nurse for five with a background in acute care, home health, and postpartum wellness. She is a mother of three (one hospital birth and two home births) which shaped her passion for lactation, birth, postpartum, and midwifery. Her own experiences with breastfeeding challenges and navigating the maternity care system inspire her dedication in supporting families through education, advocacy, and compassionate care. She is the founder of The Honest Mama Project  and Ruth and Honey Co. which were created to bridge gaps in healthcare and provide nurse-led community-centered care with a focus on Black women and underserved populations. She is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Nursing to become a Family Nurse Practitioner while continuing to provide holistic care through postpartum support, newborn and family wellness, private duty nursing, and patient advocacy.
